Star Boyz Stunt Fest 2005

This being the second year that the Star Boyz Stunt Fest would be in Ottawa , my expectations were high. After all, I figured that last year's glitches would have been resolved, and new attractions would have been added (see my report and pictures on Stunt Fest 2004). The Star Boys had promised us more, but in reality delivered even less.

Last year we attended the event on a Sunday and were disappointed that there was no custom bike show as promised. We assumed that perhaps that show had been on only on the Saturday, and we had missed it. This year we made it a point to come on the first day of the Stunt Fest to ensure we got our money's worth, and again we were disappointed. The first day's competitions were quite limited in order to preserve the maximum number of bikes for the next day. Screwed again!

What the $15 Admission Bought You on Saturday

  • Star Boys Scott and Marino continued to impress with their superb control while demonstrating various forms of wheel stands and stoppies.
  • Competitions were limited to the Fast Wheelie Drag Race, the Slow Wheelie Race, and the Longest Stoppie.
  • Practice sessions demonstrated all of the above, plus burn-outs, high chairs, and various forms of donuts, on and off the bikes.
  • A 500hp Mustang making a pass in front of the stands.
  • Have your bike tested on a DynoJet (I didn't check to see if this service was free).
  • Vendors: Power Sports Canada (the only sponsor of this event), Star Boys tee-shirts and DVD's, Nomad tee-shirts (Hells Angels support group?) and a custom bike builder's display of his products (metric)
  • One "almost serious" bike crash during a free for all stunting session.
  • The chance to have your bike damaged in the parking lot by a pocket bike wanna-be stunt rider. Thankfully, he only brought down two sport bikes (which, by the way, were parked not far from mine - phew!).

Magazines such as Super StreetBike are calling for more professionalism in the Stunting world if they are to go to the next level. I agree. Without better structure and organization to stunting events, only diehards of this potentially exciting form of competition will remain. One can only be entertained by guys (no matter how good they are) going in circles on one wheel for so long before it becomes routine. If free style extreme motorcycle jumpers can hit the big time, so too can the stunt bikers. Let me know when they get their act together, because until they do, I think next time I will save my entertainment dollars for something else.

Our Harleys in front of all the sport bikes in the parking lot.

Coolest bike in the parking lot (in my opinion).

This is the vendor area.

The two bikes above had moments earlier collided. The Suzuki on the left was doing burn outs, while the Kawasaki came in hard with a stoppie - right into the Gixxer as it crossed his path. The Kawi took most of the damage, as did its rider.

The ambulance is on its way to pick up the pieces. I guess he wasn't too badly hurt - he was waving from the window as they drove back to the pit!

Hells Angels seem to show up in full colours to everything these days.

Gail and rubberlegs (from ott-motorcycles) in the upper left hand corner watch as Scott tried to sabotage a fellow competitor's stunts.

Star Boyz Marino (left) and Scott, probably discussing their retirement plans. An earlier announcement called for applications for new blood as these boyz aren't getting any younger.
