Off the Net: The Rise and Fall of the Buells-Blast Yahoo! Group
Story by Gail
We used to belong to the Buells-Blast Yahoo! Group, owned and moderated by a guy name Ralph. Here, we found a multitude of tips and information for the new Blast owner.
One day in April 2005, the group's email digests just stopped coming. Pretty strange considering that in the past there used to be between 10 and 30 messages posted every day.
After trying to find out what happened at BadWeatherBikers.com, another Buell forum, we discovered that the old site had been hacked. God knows why - I can't see the hacker gaining anything from it. Regardless, he removed the group's messages and all other files. 10 000 messages — gone.
But not to let anyone get him down, Ralph teamed up with another frequent poster and advice giver, Ed Z, to start again. Most old members now belong to the new group, The-Buell-Blast, and the archive is being slowly built back up.
I had a picture of Andrew and I on our Blasts featured on the front page of the old group's home page, and I had taken a snapshot in order to show it here. However, with the recent events, I think the screenshot is even more special. It was taken just one week before the site got hacked.
