Subject: Reminder Regarding Straight pipes
Dear Dealers:
During the Dealer Meeting in San diego this past July, I raised the
issue (again) of excessive motorcycle noise, this time focusing on
how the noise from straight, unbaffled pipes is impacting our sport.
I want to remind you about what I said at the general session.
This
issue cannot be ignored; it will not go away. Unless we as riders
take steps to be socially responsible, our right to ride and our
sport may be in jeopardy. To prevent that, I am asking you to stop
selling straight pipes and to begin the work to convince your
customers and employees to take unbaffled pipes off their bikes.
I know what I'm asking you to do is very difficult, but it's also
very necessary. The motor company cannot make this happen alone. We
are making tools available to those of you on the front line so you
can convince riders that straight pipes are killing our sport. One
of these tools is a noise resource line. If there are urgent , local
concerns related to excessive motorcycle noise in your community,
you can call this line and receive government affairs and public
relations assistance for dealing with the issue.
Resources are also available on h-dnet.com to help you with this issue, including some talking points to help you get the word out
(dealer ops/motorcycle noise resources).
I know it won't be easy to influence this change, but we have to
start the process, and you are in the best position to do that.
Thanks in advance for giving it your best shot.
