A Snapshot of the Nineties
January / May / June / July / November
January 1993
Elections had been held, but few candidates meant many acclamations. Irvin returned for another year as Director, while Rob would continue as editor.
Regular columns included:
-
Director's Corner - Irvin reported on the recent chapter "caravan" to the Toronto bike show.
-
Editorial - More confusion regarding the 1st Canadian National HOG Rally. The executive still felt left in the dark, though information slowly started to trickle in. The location would be Carleton University , and accommodation details had been released.
-
Minutes of the Last Meeting - Minutes revealed that "The 90th Anniversary Coming Home Ride" would be passing through Ottawa , and that Hurst HD had asked the chapter to assist in greeting the riders.
Also noted was that the chapter had become cultured by taking in a biker play at the Great Canadian Theatre Company.
John H (Hurst) announced that the prices for new Harleys would be increased by 5% to compensate for the low Canadian dollar.
Finally, a movie and photo night was planned for February at Hurst HD. Wine and cheese would be served.
-
Member Profile - Featured that month was Rocco.
-
Re-Prints - A bit of history about the origins of HD from the book, Harley-Davidson Photographic History.
The Christmas party at Mamma's Place restaurant is reported on, and some of the awards presented there included one for the High Mileage of 29,000 km to Don, and another for the Best Attendance with 56 points going to Andrew.
Norm reported on his recent attendance of Am-Jam '92, giving it high marks and making it a "top priority for next year's calendar."

May 1993
Rick took the reins from Rob as the new editor, and volunteered his son to be in charge of word processing and desktop publishing.

From the Editor - Rick introduced himself.
-
Minutes of the Last Meeting - A collection of upcoming events.
-
Re-Prints - From a 1988 issue of Cycle Canada, a commentary on HD brakes (or lack there of).
Norm continued to add to his many contributions to the newsletters by providing the chapter an amusing retrospective of his early years with motorcycles entitled "When Did It Start for You?"
The included membership list contained 36 names.

June 1993
This edition started on a sad note when it reported on the death of Spanky's wife in a motorcycle accident.
Regular columns included:
-
From the Editor - A request for the ladies to start a LOH column.
-
Re-Prints - A sample of a LOH column from Plattsburg chapter was fitted in as an encouragement.
-
Also found was the historical breakdown of Harley's assigned coding for each of its model from the book "HD Buyers Guide," plus an article originally printed in Canadian Biker on the "Long Term Test of Amsoil 20/50."
No less than three articles from Norm could be found, keeping him a busy biker with the quill. He reported on the success of "Flog Your HOG 2" (40 bikes attended), and thanked yours truly for the color posters advertising the event.
His second piece talked about the upcoming chapter fund raiser he was organizing at his place which he called the "Snack and Ride."
And finally, he concluded with a short review of the Am Jam 4 day weekend.

July 1993
Regular columns included:
The first story came from Russ S who had written about his trip to Harley's ninetieth, followed by a report from Jim A who covered Quinlan's HD swap meet.
A recipe for the "Best Rum Cake Ever" was provided by Ron M.
Norm maintained his frenzied writing pace with an article that summarized the festivities of the 1st Canadian National HOG Rally (600 attended), and then followed up with a report on his own "Snack and Ride" ride. (The chapter treasury was $80 richer thanks to his boundless enthusiasm.)
One final article entitled "Miraculous Escape" related the close call that Irvin, chapter director, had experienced. He had entered the Pinecrest intersection when a car hit him coming from the left. Witnesses couldn't believe that Irvin had walked away alive sustaining only a broken wrist. Both bike and car had been badly damaged. A woman was later charged with running a red light.

November 1993
The results of the elections were posted, and the new chapter director for 1994 was Rocco Dipietrantonio. Rick (and his son) would continue their duties as newsletter editors/publishers.

-
Re-Prints - Rick submitted "Wise Observations" about life taken from a place-mat found in Kitchener .
New member Humpy showed off his skill with rhyme in a poem entitled "In the Wind."
Another member, Frank, completed his two part account of Harley's 90th, and Norm, a tireless contributor as always, reported on the Toronto International Motorcycle Show.
Irvin, who now had more time with his directorship obligations over, gave a rider's report on BMW R1100RS and how it compared to his Electra Glide. Hurst had had a BMW test ride day on June 7th, and I don't have to tell you which bike he had preferred.
