HOG: Corel Great Race
 |
| Wayne Stanfield at the experimental farm. |
All it takes is one individual to take the initiative, and the rest will follow. So when Russ S. left messages on the chapter ride-line asking if there was interest in meeting Wayne Stanfield, a competitor in the Corel Great Race (click here for article published in the HD Enthusiast) , feedback was swift and positive. Russ then went one step further and organized for us to meet the celebrity rider and his 1936 Harley, and join him on a short ride through the streets of Ottawa.

to arrive. As soon as he rode in, we surrounded him and his bike. Shaking hands, answering
questions, and posing for pictures, Wayne was more than happy to oblige us all. Russ presented him with a memento of our chapter, and, of course, we all offered our best wishes for his success in the race. Then it was time to escort him to the Château Laurier hotel where he would be spending the night before carrying on to Toronto and the finish line. The ride was, unfortunately, far too short, but never-the-less well worth the time. Wayne's easy going, friendly nature and willingness to accommodate our chapter despite the thousands of miles he had already traveled as part of the race made him a winner in our books. It was great to have had the opportunity to be a small part of racing history. |
