HOG: My Right Foot

Normally I wouldn't have cared how long I waited before being asked to do something, but this time was different because I couldn't turn off the engine. While the other bikes sat silent during the interviews, mine thumped away with impatience. Every so often I would check to see if the motor was getting too hot from the prolonged idling, but it seemed perfectly fine. With the riding shots and interviews all done, we were asked to make as much noise with the throttle as we dared while the camera zoomed in on details of our bikes, our patches and pins, and whatever else that would catch the camera man's eye.

With the filming finally completed, I wasted little time in leaving for Hurst Harley-Davidson. Earlier during a lull in the action, I had borrowed a cell phone and called the shop to see if they had a slot available to look at my starter problem. I mentally kept my fingers crossed during the 20 minute ride across town, praying that the bike would not decide to stall somewhere along the way.

Weeks later, my family and I settled down in front of the tube, popcorn and drinks within easy reach, and waited for the Regional Contact program to air. The excitement for my
Stardom.
imminent stardom grew when the segment about HOG and Harleys started.

"There's Joe - by golly, looks just like him. And there is the group shot. Oops! I'm on the left and just off the screen. Not to worry, the riding shots are coming up next. Hey, there we go! Whoa Nelly, what's this? They've gone artsy-fartsy and polarized the entire scene. Honey, you haven't spiked our drinks again, have you? Am I having a flash-back? THERE! I think that's me. No wait, maybe that one is me - oh fuddle duddle, I haven't a clue which one is me. Ahh - we're back to normal video again. There! There! Did you see it? That was me. Didn't you recognize my bike? I'm telling you, that was me; that was my foot beside the Quicksilver II air cleaner that just zipped by. Surely you recognized your son's sneaker? What a great close-up. We should make copies of the video. Give me a high five!"
