Blast Pipe Wars: Pro Series Exhaust vs. Kerker

Final Thoughts

A brand new Kerker not only sounds quieter at idle than a Pro pipe, it is by 2 dB. (Bear in mind that this difference is exponential.) The Kerker does get a bit louder by mid throttle and it is most definitely louder at full throttle. Andrew “blasted” up and down our residential street several times leaving us with no doubt of that honour. I can only imagine what sound levels will be achieved once the packing is blown out of the Kerker.

As for Caroline’s supposed quieter 883 than Gail’s Blast, the numbers don’t lie. It seems that the type of sound (for example deeper) can leave impressions that are misleading.
Hear the pipes in action on the movie clips page.
The 883 was consistently and significantly louder right across the power band.

I added the test results for my bike as it is configured now, but the tests were done a couple of years ago. Although the methodology was the same, other variables may or may not have skewed the results. Nevertheless, I’m glad to see that perhaps my bike is not as obnoxious as I feared; at least not when compared to the others.
